Has anyone been able to access the factory sub-woofer in the rear panel ? I think I have a replacement but can't get the old one out! Mine is a 2013 EXL V6 4wd W/O Nav.

I would also live to hear more info on this, I also want to replace the factory woofer
I accessed it but decided to leave it be. It had a decent size magnet on it but I did rewire it in order to run it to a 140w amp (bridged). It hits much better now. There is a bolt on the back of the plastic enclosure holding the sub in place (even though there are screws holding it in from the front). Therefore, you have to remove the entire enclosure to remove the speaker. A little tricky.
It it possible to fit a more powerful one in the same area to keep that stock look?
Sure, I don't see why not. If the mounting depth for the sub is greater than the stock then you would need a spacer ring on the outside. You will need an adequate amp though.

Crutchfield will give a little peek at some install pics. Select speaker/stereo category and then your car info. The pics will show up at the top.

I found the perfect subwoofer

It is made by Earthquake Sound. 8 " x 2 1/8 " Search the web for SWS-8X. SWS stands for "shallow woofer system" only 2 1/8 deep. I surrounded the enclosure with HushMat.
Where are the screws that hold in the enclosure to access the bolt in back?
I have a 2010 CT. Mine was not a shallow sub. Auto part

The bolts were on the upper left and right side of the sub cavity.

how did you get the enclosure out? not the sub!
I don't see how to take mine out…..it seems like it'a all one piece ,i can't find how to even remove the grill

Does your sub enclosure look like the one in the picture above? My sub did not have a grill on it (just the rear panel piece). I'm not sure how the different year models vary unfortunately. Just look for the brackets. Best of luck!

Hey, What did you use to amplify the SWS-8X??
Did you find out how to remove the grill? I need to replace mine and I am hesitant to use brute force for fear of smashing it.
@Plaubel if you purchase anything from crutchfield they will send you an install guide that shows you how to take it out. You basically have to remove your rear seat and the right half if the trunk. I probably can't post it here directly, but I can guide you through if still looking to get access.

I changed my speaker system on my 2011 CT EX-L recently to all Morel, powered by 2 Alpine amps, through an Audio Control 4XS
I kept the sub an 8" but had the cabinet modified.
