I'm trying to figure out why my projector beam isn't a straight line after installing HIDs... It spikes twice and then you see a straight beam of light... I had some 8000 K lights installed on my brother's coupe (which uses the same H11 bulb as the CT) and the projector beam was straight as an arrow... I spent about a half hour arguing with the mechanic that installed them on my car cause he could not tell me why. First he said it was the color then he said it was the box and then he said that's how my car is. I told him idk what the deal is but I want a straight projector beam to come out cause that's what I paid for... I'm going back saturday to fix this...

Has anyone noticed if their projectors are producing straight beams or "wavy" beams after installing HIDs? I'm freakin out cause idk if its normal or not lol

Just checked mine Pedro and they're not straight. From where the car is sitting, it's about a foot to the garage door and with the HID's on I see a beam on the door about 1.5 feet across and in a slow and gradual arc down slightly to the ends of the beams. (The same for both sides.)
Our projectors must be different to the Coupe.

If you like I can take a picture of it tomorrow. Right now it's late and I'm dog tired.

Ciao

Ok thanks Colin, I was arguing with him not just because I thought he messed up, but he couldn't tell me why so I thought he was trying to hustle me lol, his first thought was the fact that 6000 k is much brighter than 8000 k, it was distorting the beam, so I told him to switch them to 8000 k, and he said he can't switch them cause I don't like them and what if he switches them and its the same thing, then what does he do about the box he opened for no reason. So I went what if you open them and they're not the same? Yea plz send a few pics whenever you fell like it but ima go see what he can do 2mro

Got the pic this morning, of the d's side only from inside the garage with the car only about a foot or so from the door.
You can see that the projected beam tails down slightly tho.

The installer, like us, maybe wasn't aware that the projected beams on the CT is diff. Must be that right?
Only way to be sure is to take a pic of the beams with the OEM quartz's which I didn't do.
It must be that the CT's headlight dimensions and internals are diff to the Coupe's. Do a side x side with your bro's sometime.

Maybe the driver's side is a tad lower than the passenger side? And maybe both need to be raised just a tiny bit after they are level with each other? Just my thoughts. I'm no expert. I just play one in real life. ;)

If memory serves, Pedro and Fred, you won't get beam symmetry side to side since the D/Side will be slightly lower on purpose to not blind oncoming drivers. It should also be angled toward the curb slightly more than the P/side for the same purpose.

As to height, are getting anyone flash you to indicate that they may be high and how is visibility depth for night driving?

Pedro, It's late again now but tmro I'll take one of my lights in a similar 'pose' as yours and see what projects. Your car looks to be about 7 or 8 feet from the wall when you took them so let's see what mine does.

Lol I don't think it is of good quality to be producing this kind of blurry distortion. I spoke with the mechanic that installed them and he agreed to take back my kits even though they're not "supposed to" and get me a different kit by a supposedly better manufacturer. We'll see on Tuesday.

yea that's approximately the right distance that i took them at. What bothers me the most is the side view... The driver side should always be lower and if it's not oncoming drivers will not like you lol...

lol its cool... I spoke with the mechanic and his theory is the 6000K is distorting the beam... He's going to order an 8000K kit by a different company to see if its the ballast, the temp, the bulb, or the projector all in one shot... If it produces a sharper beam I'll let you know all the info just in case you wanna change the kit.

I think I see........So your 6000k beam may be distorted by the kit you put in but mine may not be (by my different kit). In other words the bulbs must be slightly different, correct?

I'd still like to see my beam projected in the same way yours was to see the difference. IE from about 8 feet, in the dark onto a wall. This should confirm whether mine is "wavy" or not. I suspect that it's not but would like to see.

We're off to church now and then family gathering........laters,

Lol I'm going today to swap out the boxes and see what happens... I did think about asking Steve but I don't think I will get a refund from this guy he will only do an exchange so I didn't want to ask him anything if I wasn't buying lol... If he could show me the cut-offs on the CT he fitted with HIDs that would be great...

He may or may not have that, but he might have some insight into that wavyness you encountered and probably wouldn't mind sharing.
Let us know if the change makes any diff. Hope so.

Hey man, its Sat and I'm still waiting for the replacement of the HIDs smh... My dad "kidnapped" my car today and went off to Pennsylvania without asking me and I'm stuck here until he gets back. The mechanics closes at 8 so I'm hoping he's almost here so I can get this done tonight. It's also time for an oil change so I'm gonna have him do it lol... Did you install the LED reverse lights on your CT? If so how do you like them?
