I just moved my Escort over to my CT. Where is the best place to plug this in? I prefer not to hardwire it, as I move it from car to car.

Not sure where you have yours mounted...

But it's possible to run a cigarette plug down through the door sill, under the seat, up under the center console and then come out at the seam just on the inside lip of the center compartment.

Use those wire-tie adhesive things to keep the cord in check and plug it into the plug in the center compartment.

Or, go to Radio Shack and get a cigarette plug Y splitter. Cut off the male end and you'll have to female ends in which to plug something in, and then use the wires from the splitter to hard-wire the item.

I hate seeing exposed wires, so I hard-wired a power cord for my Valentine radar detector to the wire harness in the upper console, above the rearview mirror. I have a similar cord in my ancient Fiat Spider, and it's easy to move the Valentine from car to car. I have portability, with no ugly, long coiled cords going to the power outlet. Some Escorts use phone plugs like my Valentine, others use different plugs, but the principle is the same. The job should take 30 - 60 minutes.

Michael N. Marcus - Many thanks for the great picture. I would be interested in seeing step by step pictures and procedure you did to install your Valentine. I think that this forum could benefit from individuals performing installs like this with step by step directions and pictures (lots of pictures) for others to follow. Perhaps a special thread on this board for just modifications.

The Valentine looks sharp up there and actually very hidden. I was just worried if the suction cups allowed the Valentine to fall (as can happen on either very cold or hot days), will this pull on the connection? Not to get in a detector debate, but I use the Escort 9500ix mainly because it has the GPS photo camera and Red light camera warnings, and can be updatable via the web. We have a lot of Red light cameras here. I’ve used the Valentine and also like it very much.

i did the same thing when i got my crosstour last year. it's nothing more than 2 wires. if i remember correctly i used the power wire from the mirror, and ground to the chassis
