Can a non chipped key be made only to unlock the CT doors? The chipped keys are so thick they can't be easily hidden anywhere on the car and I'd like to be able to leave a real key in the glove compartment and hide a door only key on the vehicle or if it is flat enough in my wallet.
Thanks for any insight you can give.

I tend to think it will work. Otherwise, how would you get into the car if the car battery is dead?

Or, you could just stop by a hardware store and ask them to make you a key without the chip. A non chipped key is only a couple dollars. Hope this helps.

So, Question.... is it a keyless car (2013 and up) or a keyed ignition?

If it is a keyed ignition, by chipped key, do you mean the one with the remote fob being too big?

I ask because the keyed cars came with a valet key... door/ignition key that has no remote. That is much smaller than the fob key.

Thanks for the input. The car is a 2012 so the valet key is a possibility. I would like something as thin as possible to make it easier to hide on the car. I may try a locksmith to see what they can do. The observation about opening the door on a car with a dead battery is a good one.

2013 V6 is push button start. The "key" is not chipped and the only lock cylinders on the car are the glove box, and the driver door. You have to have the remote to start the car. Even if the remote battery is dead, you can still start the car. Push the start button, the green light flashes, put the remote on top of the start button for 10 seconds, then push the start button again. I have never actually used the key.

My son lost both keys to our 2008 Accord. We have the valet key, but when we use it to start the car it immediately dies. I assume it is not programmed.

1. Is there a way to program the valet key myself?
2. Is there a way to get new keys without taking the car to the dealer or having a locksmith come to us since we can't drive it now click? We live over an hour from a dealer or locksmith.

Thanks.
