My wife's black Crosstour got hit in front of her office on Saturday afternoon.
It's a small 8 car pull straight in lot in front of some retail shops (She is a realtor) on a coastal CT village road. She was in the back printing out some copies and had no idea until she got home and I saw the damage when she backed into the driveway.
Someone clipped her while obviously backing up with their probable front fender hooking her passenger side fender area. We were in shock when I saw the fender popping out right at the seam between the body molding and fender molding. There were 3 nice sized scrape marks on the fender/bumper and a small crease (about 1 1/2" H by 3" long and maybe 1/4" deep).
I was able to push the fender together at the seam and pulled it up and out to be completely back to shape...Thank Goodness because that was the scariest part of the damage. The crease/dent is almost reachable with my hand but not sure if it can be rubbed out.
The scrapes are definitely noticeable and I don't know if those can be buffed and the plastic type material re-applied or not?
Anyone know if you can sand or buff out the scrapes and then spray on or brush on the black plastic composite material the fender and bumper are made of?
We called the police and they filled out a report and we checked with the other retail shops but nobody saw anything. There are security cameras in another parking area but not on this lot unfortunately. The wife is so bummed that her 5 week old car that she loves so much was damaged by some jerk who criminally hit and ran. Some people are such a$$holes.

Very sad to hear this. My black on black CT had only 500 KMs when I get a hit and run. The CT was damaged in a medical parking and I only discovered this when I get back home. I went to the Police station for a report and nobody has seen the incident. My insurance covered the first hit and run. The entire front bumper was changed. It's really frustrating.

Good luck buddy...

Usually what a body shop would do is sand the bumper down(just to remove the paint), and scrape the scratches a little deeper and widen them, this way, the bondo can adhere to it better, and the paint wont crack. Sanding the plastic all the way down till the scratch is gone is not a good idea. If you get it done at a proper shop, you will never notice. My passat got "hit and run" while I was out with some friends at a bar/restaurant. Were were outside next to our cars, and we hear this toyota camry making a loud banging noise. I didn't realize what had happened until the next morning. They had backed up into my left rear door, denting it and the left rear wheel well. I filed a police report, and gave them the info on the camry. The insurance covered it, but it ended up costing twice as much due to the damage at the rear well because it's dual-paneled galvanized steel, and the first one went deep enough to dent the second one. Whatever...I only paid a $500 deductible, but seeing the pics of the work progress was horrific! I now hate all toyota's and camries!

I got rear ended on the freeway at night and the perp ran. A week later I "discovered" a car that matched the damages (and my rear bumper) perfectly. I could not prove at that moment the young lady that owned it hit me as I was unable to get a lic. plate # but the guilty look upon seeing my truck said it all. I could have called it in (law enforcement officer) but decided to say a prayer for her, gave it up to God, and could only hope that her "situation" justified her behavior. Please do not let others drag you down. Instead of feeling ill-will towards them (and the world) rejoice in the fact that you are above the "average".

Hit and runs are bummers. I was in one 15 years ago or so, going through an intersection in a ford escort. The vehicle that hit me was some sort of oversized suv/truck coming from the opposite direction and making a left. Speed limit was 45, got clipped right behind the drivers door spun me around took out a signal light pole and ended up on top of a utility box. Car was totalled, the other car kept going. Nobody bothered to get the plates. Never was found.

Two years or so ago, my wife was hit from behind and the guy took off. Our car was damaged, but she chased after him and got his information. Police went to his house, but he claimed he was not driving but the police knew otherwise. But the police said it would be his word against ours. The insurance company did track him down but he hasn't paid anything on it. No money, no insurance. Still you'd think we could at least get the deductible back. He did get a good fine for being the owner of the car. That car was only a few months old too, so I can relate.

Not much you can do but get it fixed back up to new and forget about it. I know it's a bummer, but there are people who just don't stand up for thier mistakes.

Haven't done anything yet. I was able to get inside the panel enough to rub out 90% of the crease to where probably my wife and I only notice because we know where to look. The scuffs are another story so I'm still thinking about getting them done professionally. I don't think there is any way that this merits an insurance claim with the deductible of $500 and rate increase that it will surely prompt.
