I contemplating on putting some new tires on my 13’ Crosstour and I was thinking about putting a little wider tire on, but I want a comfortable, quite, smooth ride. Or should I just stay with the standard size. 225/60/18. I live in eastern North Carolina where the weather it not that bad.

Larger tires improve handling and cornering, due to wider tread faces. Wider tires will usually decrease braking distances on dry pavement as you have more grip on the road. Wider tires also increase acceleration, especially in very powerful vehicles such as muscle cars for the same reason. As with any change to a vehicle, if you change it too much you can negatively impact your car. If you go too wide the tires can wear unevenly. ... Installing wider tires allows for more tire contact to the road. Though this may be good for performance and handling reasons, it is not when it comes to efficiency.

Will a Crosstour benefit from wider tires? Braking a bit and for better acceleration, not really. If you intend to go wider, I would not go more than about half or so. But check with some good tire companies and make sure their books say that this is OK.

I run 235/65/17 on my lifted and spaced build. I get some minor rubbing and know I get rubbing at 245/64/17. I would say 235 over 225 does not really show much difference performance wise I'd say.

I also live in eastern NC. Before parking it last year I was running a 255/35zr20 and lowered on Ksport coilovers. Had upgraded brakes so im not sure about braking but definetly noticed a difference cornering. The ride honestly wasn't bad at all either with the coilovers set at firm.
