Has anyone entertained the thought of having the front grille painted to match the rest of the car?

Oo I've heard about plastidip. The results are usually awesome. I was going to plastidip the chrome trim around the window on my old sedan but I traded it in before I got a chance to. I might be doing it to this car cause I am noticing some weird blotches in the chrome. How long did it take you to do the grille? Any pics?

I’ve been looking for a mesh replacement grille. I have found a few, but they all have a hole in the center for that big ‘H’ (Honda) emblem. I have contacted a few manufacturers to see if they would make me a custom grille without the ‘H’ emblem hole. Just looking for something a bit different. If anyone finds any plain mesh grilles, please let me know.

Nice job pgarci01, your expertise in plasti-dip is certainly a lot better than mine, at least from a few feet away! :D All I've done is tool handles and never had great luck, but I've also only ever used the spray, not the liquid. Also my spray-can painting skills suck. . .The matte black looks good on your crystal black pearl. Feel free to share high quality pics and/or an update after a few thousand miles. . .

CM - I've thought of this too, I'm just a little bit scared because post 1996 or so when the BMW M3 came out

there seemed to be a mesh explosion of horrific proportions in the aftermarket, once in awhile it looked classy, but some times it just looked whacky!

Like this one for example. . .it's everything wrong with the post E36 M3 revolution and the Chrysler 300 revolution combined into one nasty ghetto love child (man I sure hope no one from the forum owns this grill. . .haha).

Anyway - that ain't the look I would ever shoot for. . .

Ok, after about an hour playing around in GIMP (the "free photoshop") here is something sorta kinda close to what I'd like. . .no massive H emblem, (approximate) body color grill slats, clear parking light lenses, and audi style LED DRLs!

And yes this is intentionally low-res so I could crank it out faster!

The one and only time I saw someone with a mesh grille on a CT, it did not have the Honda emblem in the front. It could have been custom but it did look basically identical to the eBay one minus the H. It does look much better in person but its not the theme I'm going for. I don't believe it should have a hole in the center if it is a replacement grille because then there won't be anything for the H to stick on to. You would have to stick the H on the mesh directly if u want it there. If it were a grille overlay that goes on top of the factory grille then I could see them leaving a hole for the H emblem. I contacted an ebay store that sells those grilles about a year ago and I was told that the example shown is photoshopped so you can't really go by that example lol.

*I looked up the pdf for installing the grille and installing the H is completely optional:

20's with slight suspension drop is all I need... With 26's the CT will look like a giant roller skate lol... I will try to post better pics when I clean the car up real nice...

I contacted E&G Grilles this morning. They told me that the grille is notched for the center emblem. That the notches are noticeable if you don’t install the center emblem. When I enquired about getting a grille that has not been notched, they told me that it is assembly line production and they cannot custom make any grilles. The price for a black 2 piece grille that they quoted me was $448.26 plus shipping.

That's pretty dumb of them considering the fact that most ppl that swap grilles opt to leave the emblems out... This is what sucks about owning a car that not many ppl have or like to customize... In 2 years I've only seen this grille on 1 CT... Maybe you could start a group buy... If you can get a decent number of ppl (maybe 10) that also seriously want the mesh grille with no emblem, I'm sure they'll consider leaving out those notches...

PGarcl01, yes I agree. It’s not like I’m asking them to add customization to the grille, but actually asking that they refrain from doing something to the grille. Can’t imagine it would take much time to ‘not notch it’. Anyway, I’ll probably try again and perhaps speak with someone higher up than the telephone sales people.

Right. . ."assembly line." I'm sure it's humming 24-7 with young Thai children humming away without a break for weeks.

Seriously, given the amount of CT on the road, and the fact that probably 50% of the CT owning population that would consider buying such a grill belongs to this forum, I cannot imagine they have produced and/or sold more than 10-15.

and @PGar - love the new pics, that really looks sharp. I also like the fact that you didn't murder out the H emblem in black too, that would probably look a little weird.

I'd do the bottom half but the top grille is overkill
