Stumbled across an article about the Chinese announcement of the Crosstour...

Apparently they are making this even more of a "Flagship" model than our EX-L models here in North America.

http://chinaautoweb.com/2010/10/honda-crosstour-hits-chinese-showrooms/

From what I can spy, they are getting:

  • Added dash info display with corresponding steering wheel controls.
  • Additional Wood Trim around steering wheel and dash.
  • On-Board Hard Drive (HDD) for music
  • Side mirrors with turn signals (and I'm suspecting folding functionality).
  • Some sort of Parking and other assist (evidenced by additional buttons).
  • PADDLE SHIFTERS

The article states that it's getting the same engine and 5-speed as we have here... but man those paddle shifters...

(Here is the link directly to the additional pictures.)

I discovered this thanks to this discussion in the other thread regarding modding folding mirrors onto our Crosstours...

Makes me wonder what our Crosstours are capable off under their skin... which makes me both frustrated and optimistic.

Looks like it's got headlight washers too, although the steering wheel seems to have the same amount of buttons as ours, other than the paddles of course.

I really like the way they did the wood trim, that's how it should be done in all of them

Good catch on the headlight washers!

The steering wheel definitely has 2 extra buttons on the right side (in the silver). They are for navigating the info screen on the dashboard (just like the Pilot).

Would love the paddles, extra wood trim and side mirror indicators. I'm thinking we'll get that and more next year.
C.
I'm willing to bet that we never see these types of items on the NA Crosstours...

The Chinese model is considerably more expensive then ours (the article says "twice")... and all the features... the trim, the mirrors, the headlamp washers... all crowd into the Acura line.

And the one thing that many automakers do (including Honda) is to make a clear distinction between their "base" and "luxury" brands.

If you want these items in NA, you're going to have to go to the Acura dealer.

I really like the mirros. I also like the wood trim on the doors, steering wheel and along the dash but not a huge fan of it around the shifter area and CD player (it looks like a peel and stick kit). As far as the paddles go, I wouldn't mind if they came with the car but I wouldn't pay extra for them. However, if a manual transmition was optional, I'd be all over that like white on rice!

Me Like, I guess I'll be moving to China. Mark these words the 2012 CT will have all the same thing the China model has.
The only thing that might stop that is the cost. Will American/Canadians pay for those Improvements/Upgrades? My guess is NO, why would you pay another 5 –10 K more for a Honda when you can get a Lexus, Infiniti, Lincoln or Acura with the same items. My one question is does Honda sell Acura in China? If not this might be one way to suck more money out of the Chinese. Remember China and Japan don’t get along that entirely well. Ever since Japan invaded China back in 1931 and then successfully in 1937 – 1945 until Japan got it’s butt kicked by the Americans. Opps, sorry I digressed there. China is an ever-growing market for luxury cars and with the Chinese now starting to make money in the private sector there is a big thirst for upscale cars. I would think that Honda is trying to compete against BMW, Mercedes Benz, Audi and Jaguar. Now on another note with China owning most of America’s debt we might be seeing more of China and it’s newfound prosperity. Again I Digress.:D

I agree that Honda is trying to create a high-end luxury ride out of this to sell in China.

And I also agree that NA buyers wont be willing to shell out the extra dough for the upgrades. One of the biggest complaints about the current gen is that it's way too over priced because people keep comparing it to the Toyota Venza.

If Honda ups the price of the Crosstour any more... especially by another 7k for these upgrades.. it'll sell even less than they are now (read: "never"). (This Chinese "Premium" version is priced at the rough equivalent of $64k US)

Anyone looking for these features, in that price bracket (like you said) will be skipping right over Honda and test driving Acura, Lexus, etc.
