Has anybody tried bypassing the the reverse relay to allow the rearview camera to operate continuously?

My search on this topic had no result. If someone had done it or proven that it's not feasible (i.e. the camera will burn out on continuous operation during "ignition on" conditions), please point me to that thread.

A switch like the "Blind Spot" camera has would be a nice feature, giving the option to turn the rear-view camera on/off as desired.

Agreed.

I lease mine. Accordingly, I will not drill or otherwise modify any of the panels but I'd otherwise put a switch into the lower driver's dash panel in a heartbeat. A nice little push-push switch would be my preference.

Having found that the lower dash panel only costs $15 + shipping, I'll not be reluctant to add a switch.

Great idea!
Keep us posted if you proceed forward. Of course the next thing would be to put in coffee cup warmers along with an app that will unlock and start it from your phone.
