Aftermarket trailer hitch

Has anyone put or is thinking to add the after market trailer hitch to the CT. And if so, is there any modifications or cutting involved. I have Leased my CT and don't want to alter if not needed. Would be using the hitch for a bike rack only since putting straps on the glass hatch is no good.

I have not done it but, talked to the Honda people and yes there is cutting involved.
It has been my experience though, that modifications of this sort are fine upon return of the vehicle at lease expiration. That is, providing you leave them on the vehicle.
Check with your dealer to be sure....
I brought our Crosstour to the dealership and they added it for us. It requires a little modding but I'm sure a leased vehicle would be ok for it since it's not a mod that effects the aesthetics of the car right?

I would not make that assumption. That could be a significant financial mistake to get wrong.
Has anyone use bike rack with straps yet on CT or do you have to get the hitch? Hauling one bike inside is fine but need to haul 2-3 bikes. I don't want bike on top of car, will put hitch on if this is my only choice. Any ideas?
One thing to consider with an after market trailer hitch: if you are unlucky enough to have transmission issues down the road, could Honda possibly void your warranty?

Good point. I don't know and just not sure. Do you know if Honda puts it on, is it ok then?(they do offer a ball and hitch as an accessory), also does Honda actually have a tow package when buying a CT? I really wish someone made a bike rack with straps to fit the CT, this would be so much easier.
I put one on last week, its only an inch and a quater. Your not haulling a 50 foot SeaRay... Bike rack or maybe a trailer to the dump.
Just had mine installed today. Also just a 1 1/4 inch receiver for a bike rack. Only minimal cutting of the heat shield. About a 40 minute job.
Hitch

We opted for the Honda hitch when we bought our Crosstour. The dealer had to order it and the wiring harness. When it arrived, we took the car in for the install. It took them one and half days to install the hitch and harness. I went into the shop area at the end of the first day and they had the back interior and back seat torn apart for the install. Seems like a great amount of labor time for the dealer.

a day and a half to install a factory designed trailer hitch, that just ridiculous
Which hitch?

Looks like Honda has a big markup in there factory unit since a hidden hitch is $125! Gotta see what the real difference in the install is I was thinking an hour and a half not a day and a half!!
For those that installed an aftermarket trailer hitch as opposed to a factory one, any issues with the trailer hitch interfearing with the spare tire tray? The only thing worse than getting a flat tire in the midle of nowhere would be to find out that the trailer hitch has to come off in order to get to the spare tire!!!
The Curt Manufacturing hitch does not affect the spare tire and goes around the spare tire tray. Don't know specifically about the others.
To those with the Curt or Hidden Hitch - could you all post pictures of the finished product?

Or any pictures of installed trailer hitches please. Any diy jobs too.
i have a hidden hitch on my CT. i went with aftermarket one because i didnt want my lower rear bumper cut for the oem trailer hitch. the aftermarket one sits slightly lower to avoid cutting the bumper. ill post pics later on tonight.

Friendly bump/reminder.

Just posted on another thread but for everyone monitoring this one:

Personally I dont like it. Install was a pain in the rear and it sticks out too much.

What was the model / company you used, and how much did it cost you, how long did it take you to install? What is the hitch's towing rating?

Obviously you probably would not recommend this / or do it again if you had your choice?

(i know you partially answered this in the other thread, but just to be complete... thank you.)
