I think a lot of the auto manufacturers are going to the 0W-20 engine oil for their 2010 vehicles to improve their CAFE scores (and not because it is the best engine oil. It might be for Fairbanks, Alaska in the winter, but not for the USA Interior.
When we bought our 2006 Accord I didn't accept 5W-20 being the best engine oil. I contacted the Honda dealer in Melbourne, Australia (to satisfy my curosity) to see what Honda recommended for their nation. The dealer said 10W-30 as documented by the owners manual. He said our 5W-20 was for our CAFE standards! I put 10W-30 in our engine at 1000 miles and then started using Mobil 1 10W-30 synthetic at 10,000 miles. We had 43,000 miles on it last week when we traded it in. Our last 4,000+ mile trip in the Nov-Dec 2009 trip had 36+ MPG at 75 MPH. When we traveled at 70 MPH it was 38-40 MPG.
I also change my oil & filter between 3,000-4,000 miles, even the with Mobil 1 10W-30 synthetic. I have been using the Mobil 1 filter in all of our vehicles since its introduction.
