A/C Failing

I drove from Wisconsin to Colorado, and the A/C produced only meager cooling to around 72 degrees. When I arrived, I did a little research, and decided to try and recharge. Got the basic Freon, loaded in the whole can, and it blew nice cold air for a couple days, but then back to the meager cooling. I am thinking that I have a Freon leak somewhere. And have read a few posts of situations where rocks have damaged the condenser and/or related connecting tubing. I have an appt with my fave Honda repair shop next week, but would like to have a good sense of what might be the root issue. I appreciate any ideas! (common leak issues; electrical issues; condenser issues, etc.). My 2001 has about 73,000 miles, and otherwise a great car.

Fixed! I examined the radiator (and all associated tubes, etc.) area for any obvious damage from rock; there was none. I'm not a mechanic, so I looked all over the internet for common issues with Honda V6 air conditioning. Frequently, there were posts about problems with the factory relay switch (in the fuse box under the hood) for the a/c condenser clutch. So, I replaced mine (less than $7), and that seems to have fixed the issue. Nice cold a/c now!
The only other indicator of this relay "misbehaving" was a very low volume whirling noise produced at odd intervals while driving, which would go off and on. I am thinking the failed relay was part of that problem. Typo in pervioius post; my 2011 Honda Accord Crosstour!

Good information! Thanks for sharing.

Everything still working perfect! When I first bought the 2011 CT (in 2014...it was a lease return to dealer), it made that peculiar low volume intermittent whirling noise, but I sort of ignored it (turned up the blower fan, or turned up the music...haha), but now I am convinced that the relay had been misbehaving all along, cycling unnecessarily. To diagnose while parked, I toggled the a/c on-off and inspected the condenser clutch, which seemed to work as intended; however, I believe that while driving, the relay was not working correctly. See video on youtube of Accord with same issue...relay turned on-off simply by tapping with screwdriver. The new relay switch came with a lifetime warranty. I now believe - as is suggested by postings on the internet - that the factory installed condenser clutch relay was faulty and/or failing. A simple $7 fix.

One more addition....new, clean cabin air filter is important, too!
