Default Check Your Rear Brake Pads

Ref: 2013 6cyl AWD

What a surprise when I discovered that the original Honda rear brake pads were down to less than 1mm at 29,300 miles! The outers wore more than the inner so the worn pad warning did not sound.

So I purchased new Honda rear pads and much to my surprise the friction material measures 8mm! The standard thickness I have seen for my other cars is 12mm. No wonder they were gone.

I hope this prevents an expensive brake job for someone.

Few questions:
Why are the OEM Honda rear pads only 8mm?
Are aftermarket rear pads 8mm? or 12mm?

Thanks for the post,

OEM Honda Brakes Calipers and rotors are tiny.

Even when I switched to aftermarket rotors and pads (EBC Yellow Stuff) the pads wore out extremely quick in the rear... 2 sets of rear per 1 set of fronts.

I am a spirited driver and load up the car for long distance trips etc. so the brakes take a beating for sure, but you guys should inspect your brakes every quarter or half year at minimum.

I'm running a BBK atm, and it should last much longer because of the increased surface area for the same amount of force, but for OEMs you should definitely be careful.

Great advice...

I replaced the stock rotors @~70k miles and the rear pads were way down compared to the fronts.
